Kybella is synthetic Deoxycholic acid that emulsifies fats to aid their intestinal absorption. When injected into subcutaneous fat, deoxycholic acid destroys adipocytes (fat cells). The inflammatory tissue reaction leads to a reduction in fat with minimal scarring.
